About Us

One%Matters started at New Life Church in Ann Arbor, in the heart of the University of Michigan's campus. On the corner of Washtenaw and Hill St, One%Matters calls New Life Church home at 1541 Washtenaw. What has started as a small group of 12 students, One%Matters is actively working to touch every part of the University of Michigan's campus and the Ann Arbor community. With the vision of touching every individual, church, community and business, here at One%Matters we believe that together we can and will be the generation to alleviate extreme poverty and slavery and the suffering caused by HIV/AIDS.

The Mission

One%Matters is a non-profit organization that aims to envision and mobilize individuals toward eradicating extreme poverty and slavery and alleviating the suffering caused by HIV/AIDS and broken communities worldwide. We aspire to engage individuals, churches, communities and businesses to give 1% of their income, 1% of their time, and 100% of their hearts toward organizations that are working to eradicate extreme poverty and alleviate the suffering caused by HIV/AIDS worldwide.

Core Values

The following core values reflect the essential and enduring tenets and philosophy of One%Matters. They are the basis for our mission and for all of our goals, activities, and working relationships. They are the principles that have united all those who work for and in partnership with One%Matters, and are the foundation of our organization.

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. - Matthew 25:37-40

Onepercentmatters believes that God has a heart that loves and cares for every life on this planet. Because of God's love for every life, we believe that every human life is valuable. As a manifestation of God's heart for His people, we are called to love our neighbors as God loves us: with kindness and compassion, sharing one another's sufferings and joy. We believe that we are called by God's love for us to love each other and treat each other as children of God with dignity, respect and love.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. – Philippians 2:3

At Onepercentmatters, we believe that we are called to honor the dignity of all persons, promoting each other's self-respect and self-worth. We believe that we are called to not only treat others with dignity, but to act on the behalf of individuals that are not treated with the dignity that they deserve as a child of God.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. - 1Corinthians 12:4-6

As an organization, we believe that we are called to work in partnership with others both inside and outside the Christian Church, and inside and outside our organization, in order to better the human experience for every individual. In those partnerships, we believe we are able to hold ourselves accountable to one another in the pursuit of improving the human experience for every individual and embracing diversity among cultures in order to accomplish more together than we can do alone.
